International Women's Day Brunch
Galway Chamber is delighted to celebrate International Women's Day 2023 kindly sponsored by MJ Conroy with a brunch event.
This year, the theme for IWD is 'Embracing Equity' - Celebrate women's achievement. Raise awareness about discrimination. Take action to drive gender parity.
This event celebrates the achievements of the impressive women we have in the West of Ireland. The aim is to open a conversation about what each of us can do to challenge bias, stereotypes and discrimination across all aspects of society, from government to the media, boardrooms to the sports field.
Panelists include:
Elaine Murphy, VP and Site Lead, Signify Health
Elaine has held multiple leadership roles across high-profile start-ups and scale-ups with a lean toward multinationals leading the way in their respective areas of technological advancements in recent years. She has a particular interest in customer-centric technologies and has been instrumental in scaling successful sites that specialise in product innovation, customer experience, business development, finance and many other critical business functions.
Elaine is the VP and Site Lead of Signify Health’s tech hub in Galway. Signify Health is a leading U.S. healthcare tech company that is currently scaling up its software engineering arm in the west of Ireland. Previous roles for Elaine include site lead with the iconic games manufacturer EA, where she worked for seven years leading a myriad of functions in both Galway and Austin, Texas.
Elaine is a huge advocate of driving further investment in the West of Ireland and was elected to the board of the American Chamber of Commerce in 2017.Her success and steadfast interest and work in diversity and inclusion gained Elaine a place on the 2017 Women's leadership forum at Harvard Business School with an elite group of successful business women from around the world.
Professor Emer Mulligan, Professor in Taxation & Finance, and Director, University of Galway Tax Clinic. Emer Mulligan is a Personal Professor in Taxation and Finance in the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics at University of Galway, and she was Head of this School from 2009-2015. She is currently Head of the Discipline of Accountancy and Finance in the School. She is a former member of University of Galway’s Governing Authority. In 2014, she was awarded a Fulbright-CRH Scholar Award to carry out research in Harvard University.
Emer is a member of various academic editorial boards for top international journals, and she has published papers on tax administration, tax planning in practice, tax and strategy, performance, tax risk management, tax lobbying, and tax and pensions, and she is frequently invited to speak at international conferences on taxation. Emer is Director of the recently opened University of Galway Tax Clinic which serves students and marginalised citizens in the community, participates as a mentor on a number of university leadership initiatives, and served as a judge in various enterprise competitions in the region. In 2017, Emer received the Outstanding Business Woman of the Year Award, from Network Galway. Prior to joining academia, Emer was a tax manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC).
The Very Reverend Lynda Peilow. Lynda is the first woman to serve as Rector in the grouped parishes of Galway and Oughterard (Kilcummin) in the 700-year history of St. Nicolas's. Lynda also holds several senior positions in the wider church and diocese, and in 2022 was appointed by the House of Bishops as Central Director of Ordinands.
Eveanna Ryan, Group Sales & Marketing Manager at Connacht Hospitality Group
Eveanna has over 20 years’ experience within the hospitality and tourism industry working in both nationally and internationally. She is a graduate of Cornell University with a diploma in strategic management. Eveanna sits on the board of the Galway Convention Bureau and the council for the Galway Chamber and was recently awarded “Sales and Marketing Manager of the year” by the Irish Hospitality institute.
